Dinnertime

When the clock strikes half past three,
Children wonder what's for tea,
"Leek and potato soup with bread;
help me cook it?" Mother said.

"Get the leeks out, chop chop chop,
buy some flour from the shop,
lay the table, bowls and spoons:
Dinner will be ready soon".

While the dough is baked to bread,
children anxious to be fed,
potatoes cut up nice and small,
around the table babies crawl.

Soon the kitchen smells of food,
puts mum in a happy mood,
calls the children in from play,
sunset signals 'end of day'.

"Dinner's ready!" mother calls,
wraps the babies up in shawls,
"The soup and bread I'll go and get,
the food is ready to be ate."

Father sits down in his chair,
leads the family in prayer,
then grateful children eat their tea.
What a shame there's none for me!

I like this. What a shame there was none for you. Perhaps we all had seconds while you were writing!
